COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

                   GRADE 1 PREP FOR SUCCESS [4 HOURS] ★ Entering Grade 1 – This course is designed to ease the student transition from kindergarten to the  rst grade. Students will follow an integrated reading readiness and language arts program as well as develop critical thinking skills through mathematics. This all-morning option allows  rst-grade students to work with the same teacher and in the same classroom throughout the day.
ART AND DESIGN
CLAY AND SCULPTURE
Entering Grades 2 and 3; Entering Grades 3 and 4 (Offered for two age groups in separate classes) – Students will learn to work with clay and other materials to create original works of art. Students will practice a variety of clay and sculpture construction techniques and improve three-dimensional visual thinking and problem-solving skills. Projects will include relief tiles, action  gures, animal habitats and much more. Clay projects will be  red and glazed.
PAINTING AND DRAWING
Entering Grades 2 and 3; Entering Grades 3 and 4 (Offered for two age groups in separate classes) – Using ingenuity and a range of media, students will explore drawing and painting from observation and imagination. Students will learn the fundamentals of color theory
and composition as well as how to create more detailed renderings. Students will also build technical and creative thinking skills, develop artistic con dence and bring their ideas to life.

SCIENCE AND ART
Entering Grades 2 and 3 – Both science and art involve examining and explaining the world around us. This STEM- to STEAM-based class will focus on creativity, curiosity, imagination and attention to details – traits that artists and scientists share. Students will learn about patterns in nature, animals and habitats, the Earth and space, and scienti c investigation through artistic processes.
CARTOONING AND COMIC ART
Entering Grades 3 and 4 – In this class, students will learn to create original cartoon characters, settings and storyboards. Students will explore different aspects of cartooning and develop a family of funny characters. We will introduce drawing techniques for creating the illusion of depth and form, along with other innovative mark-making exercises. Students will work with a variety of media and create a Claymation-style model
to draw from.
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING, ENGINEERING AND ROBOTICS
INTRODUCTION TO SCRATCH PROGRAMMING Entering Grades 2 and 3 – This course provides a hands- on, problem-solving approach to learning programming and related concepts in computer science. Students will create animated adventures and games while learning programming fundamentals with Scratch. With this drag-and-drop platform developed by MIT, students play with characters and code blocks to set a foundation for computational thinking and problem solving – essential skills in today’s tech-driven world. Students will learn to create variables, use conditional statements and loops,
