How to Register for APE Classes

Who Should Enroll in APE classes?

APE students typically have a physical disability or chronic health impairment that impacts their ability to participate in a regular physical education course.

Students who benefit are those who want to regularly  exercise to improve their physical fitness. Many find that being with other students who are also participating in self-improvement creates a motivating peer support environment in the gym and the pool.

In most classes students follow the individualized exercise program developed by the adapted physical education instructor, under supervision and with assistance when necessary.  This individualized, independent approach is intended to promote life-long exercise and fitness habits.

To understand the APE program better and to see first hand what we offer, come visit us when the college is in session - Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 2:00pm (no appointment necessary)

STEP 1:

Become a registered student with De Anza College

STEP 2:

Complete and submit the online DSPS Application to receive services through the college's Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) division.  Once the completed application is submitted a DSPS staff member will set-up an appointment for you with a counselor

STEP 3:

Meet with a Disability Support Services (DSS) Counselor. Your counselor will review your documentation and discuss your goals and educational needs. The counselor will assist in registering you in an available Adapted Physical Education class in the appropriate quarter.

STEP 4:

Attend your APE class where the instructor will work with you to determine a personal, appropriate, and effective exercise plan of action.
