Message from Athletics Director Kulwant Singh
Welcome to De Anza College Athletics. It has been my privilege to serve as the Director of Athletics at De Anza College since July 2004.
De Anza College Athletics has a rich history of academics and athletic accomplishments. Many of our student-athletes have transferred to the university level and some have even competed professionally. Many top coaches and staff have worked at De Anza College over the years. We are proud of these individuals and their contributions to the success of De Anza College Athletics.
When I became the Athletics Director, the coaches, staff and I set the goal to reach new heights both on and off the field. Here are some highlights:
De Anza has dedicated faculty, staff and coaches. It is these committed individuals who ensure the success of our student-athletes and teams. We are committed to excellence and we welcome you to join us in reaching our goals. De Anza remains a leader in California in retention, transfers, and GPA.
Kulwant Singh (Coach K) – Bio
Kulwant Singh is currently in his twelfth year as the Director of Athletics at De Anza College. Kulwant oversees 19 intercollegiate athletics programs with about 480 student-athletes and 70 faculty/staff. De Anza has won the Coast Conference All-Sports Championship the past eight years in a row and 21 out of the past 31 years. De Anza’s 480 student-athletes average about a 3.00 GPA.
Kulwant currently serves on the Executive Committee of the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) and is the 2015-16 President of NATYCAA.
Kulwant also serves on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
On March 2, 2016 Kulwant was selected as a NACDA 2015-16 Junior/Community College Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year winner.
He served as a member of the Management Council of the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) for six years. The Management Council is responsible for helping set policy for the CCCAA. Kulwant has served on several CCCAA Committees such as the Policy, Fall Festival, Competition, Diversity and Inclusion, and Social Media Committees.
Kulwant served as the President of the Coast Conference (for all sports) in 2005 and 2006.
In December 2011, Kulwant was inducted into the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Kulwant coached the De Anza Men’s Soccer Team for 17 years. The team won two State Championships, 11 Coast Conference Championships and made several other State Championship appearances.
Kulwant coached the De Anza Women’s Soccer Team for 7 years and won two State Championships. The team also won four NorCal Championships and four Coast Conference Championships.
On Saturday December 4, 1994, both Kulwant’s Men’s & Women’s teams won State Championships on the same day at Cosumnes River College.
Kulwant coached 15 Male and Female All-Americans and had over 100 of his student-athletes receive scholarships. He has over 300 collegiate wins as well as over 100 high school wins.
Kulwant coached two teams that were recognized as California Community College Scholar-Teams: De Anza Women's Soccer in 1996 and DeAnza Men's Soccer in 2001.
Kulwant has an NCAA National Championship in NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer (1988) from his coaching days at Cal State East Bay (Hayward). Kulwant and the team were recognized as an Honor Team at the Cal State University East Bay (Hayward) Hall of Fame event in 2010.
Additionally, he has another National Championship and Gold Medal with the National and Olympic Teams Program in Amateur Women’s Soccer. 15 of those players went on to play professional soccer in the W-USA League.
Kulwant was named Community College National Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1995.
Kulwant was a regular member of the California Community College Soccer Executive Board. In the 1990’s he helped increase the number of teams for playoffs as well as lobbied for additional medals for the student-athletes.
Through his leadership with the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA), Kulwant led the charge for more All-Americans to be named from California as part of the National All American process. Additionally, he was instrumental in getting California in the National Rankings program for both Men & Women.
Kulwant spent 18 years with the California Youth Soccer Association, Olympic Development Program as Coach, Technical Director, and Boy’s Senior Administrator. Kulwant also spent 19 years with the Olympic Development Program of Region IV of the United States Youth Soccer Association. He has been a member of the NSCAA for 30 years.
In 1994, Kulwant served as the Assistant Competition Manager & Site Director for the FIFA World Cup 94 for the San Francisco Venue/Stanford Site
Kulwant holds a current United States Soccer Federation National “A” Licensed Coach. He also has a National Soccer Coaches of America NSCAA Premier License.
Most importantly, Kulwant started his student-athlete career at a Community College and subsequently earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education.
