Head Coach Danielle Altman Von Matt enters her first season at the helm of the De Anza College women's water polo team in 2010. The 2010 Dons finished the season with an overall record of 3-7 and finished the season 6th place in the Coast Conference.
Coach Von Matt joined De Anza College Athletics after 5 seasons as the Head Coach for the UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team. While at Santa Barbara, Von Matt compiled a record of 83-83, coaching the Gauchos to back-to-back winning season in 2005 and 2006 for the first time in recent program history (since women's water polo went to varsity status in 1996.) In addition, the Gauchos were ranked nationally in the top 10 from 2003-2006 in the CWPA (Collegiate Water Polo Association) poll, with a top ranking of 6th in the nation during the 2005 season. This is still the highest national ranking in program history. Prior to joining the Gaucho family, Von Matt served as the head women's water polo coach at California State University, San Bernardino for four seasons. With the Coyotes, she compiled a four-year record of 64-58 and in 2002, she guided San Bernardino to a 26-8 mark, the best in program history. In her final two seasons with the Coyotes, Von Matt's teams posted a combined record of 41-18.
Overall, the Nevada City, Calif., native has an NCAA Division I and II career coaching record of 147-141.
In addition to her coaching duties, Von Matt was a professor of kinesiology at both California State University, San Bernardino and California State University, Fullerton. In addition, Von Matt is a NCAA Division I, II and III water polo official. She began her coaching career as the head water polo coach and swimming coach at Bear River High School in Grass Valley.
A 1997 graduate of the University of Redlands, Von Matt received Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Relations and French. She was a First Team All-American water polo player in 1996 and 1997, and a First Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection for her final three seasons. In addition, Von Matt was also an All-Conference swimmer for three seasons. Von Matt, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, was also an Academic All-American in cross country in 1995. She received her master's degree in education (kinesiology option) from Cal State San Bernardino in 2000.
