History of De Anza's CAD Program
Since 1984 the CAD program has evolved continuously to meet the changing needs of the local Silicon Valley engineering and design firms. Over 10,000 students and professionals have been trained. Starting with Computervison (1983-1993) CAD programs have been added and removed as the needs of local industry changed and design requirements evolved. Calma was taught off-campus (1986-1988), and CADAM was scheduled at Lockheed (1985-1987). AutoCAD was integrated into the program in 1987. Since 1994 Pro/ENGINEER (now called Creo Parametric) has been available. In 1999 SolidWorks and Inventor were added to the program offerings. In the fall of 2005, NX was scheduled for the first time. CDI intends on staying up-to-date with the newest industry-appropriate engineering and design CAD tools to meet the needs of our students and local companies. In the Fall of 2010 we included REVIT from AutoDesk for the first time and in Winter 2011 CATIA was offered. A majority of our students are now professionals hoping to gain or keep employment in engineering and design. All courses are scheduled as on-campus and distance learning including CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER, Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, and REVIT. Since the lectures are recorded, you can take the classes from anywhere you have an internet connection and watch the lecture as needed. All software is available as a free or low cost download from the CAD software company in the form of a Student Edition.
CDI is part of Business/Computer Systems Division
