History of De Anza's CAD Program
Since 1984 the CAD program has evolved continuously to meet the changing needs of the local Silicon Valley engineering and design firms. Over 10,000 students and professionals have been trained. The facilities at De Anza include two rooms in the ATC with 34 workstations each. Starting with Computervison (1983-1993) CAD programs were added and removed as the needs of industry changed and design requirements evolved. Calma was taught off-campus (1986-1988), and CADAM was taught at Lockheed (1985-1987). AutoCAD was integrated into the program in 1987. Since 1994 the high-end CAD package offered is Pro/ENGINEER. In 1999 SolidWorks and Inventor were added to the program offerings. In the fall of 2005, NX was offered for the first time. We intend on staying up-to-date with the newest industry-appropriate engineering and design CAD tools to meet the needs of our students and local companies. In the Fall of 2010 we will offer REVIT from AutoDesk for the first time and in Winter 2011 CATIA will be offered. A majority of our students are now professionals hoping to gain or keep employment in engineering and design. By 2011 most of our courses will be offered as distance learning including CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
