On Feb. 8, 2010,  De Anza's Academic Senate approved a resolution to support the participation of all De Anza College faculty members in the De Anza College March 4th, 2010 "Day of Action" events. Read the full text of the resolution below.

De Anza College Academic Senate Faculty Resolution
Approved February 8th, 2010

WHEREAS, on Oct. 24th 2009, the Mobilizing Conference to Defend Public Education voted, as its principal decision, to call for a statewide Strike and "Day of Action" on March 4, 2010 to engage in lobbying activities for public education funding (with each school, union, and organization being free to choose its specific demands and tactics);

WHEREAS, it is in the interests of all members of the De Anza College community and the academic interests of all colleges across the state that these "Day of Action" events are as effective as possible; and

WHEREAS, it is reasonable to assume that the efficacy of the "Day of Action" events organized by De Anza College will be directly proportional to the degree of student, faculty, staff, and community member participation in said events;

BE IT RESOLVED that the De Anza College Academic Senate supports the participation of all De Anza College faculty members in the De Anza College March 4th, 2010 "Day of Action" events;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the De Anza College Academic Senate encourages faculty to attend these events in lieu of holding classes, and/or bring their classes to organized events or regard student participation as somehow class related or not penalize students for attending events instead of classes; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the De Anza College Academic Senate encourages all De Anza College academic division deans to not view the participation of any part-time faculty members in their divisions in said events as a breach of said faculty members' employment contracts.
