Youth Voices United for Change (YVUC) is an annual youth leadership conference planned by De Anza College students for local high school students every fall quarter in November.
Every year YVUC brings 300 high school students together on the De Anza campus to motivate, educate, and involve young people to create positive community changes in their lives, schools, and local neighborhoods.
Conference goals are:
to offer an experience that would help youth develop their knowledge and understanding of community issues, skills, motivation, and capacities as civically engaged community members.
to connect youth to local community organizations and student groups focused on contemporary issues.
to encourage youth from underserved populations to see the benefits of attending De Anza College and other institutions of higher education
Focus
The conference in 2012 will focus on empowerment, expression, and change through the arts. Our workshops and speakers will range from muralists to hip hop artists who will address how art can be used as a medium for social justice and community change.
Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided!
