Academic Probation
A student who has attempted a total of 6 or more quarter
units as shown by the official academic record shall be placed on
academic
probation if the student has earned a grade point average below 2.0 in
all
units. Students will be placed on
probation for each quarter (excluding summers) as long as their
cumulative GPA
is below a 2.0. Students must complete
the required intervention in each quarter that they are on probation.
Electronic mails are sent to students on the
7th week of the quarter, alerting them of their probationary
status
and the required intervention to clear their HOLD.
The levels of probation include:
- Basic
– There is no HOLD on registration for classes and no intervention is
required. However, students are
recommended to seek assistance from the Counseling & Advising
Center.
- Moderate
– There is a HOLD on registration for classes. Students must complete
the online
Success Seminar.
Once the plan is approved, then the HOLD
will be cleared within 2 working days.
- Severe
– There is a HOLD on registration for classes. Students must attend
one in person
Student Success Workshop. Students
must bring an unofficial transcript, which can be accessed from your My De
Anza account. Please refer
to the Schedule of
Workshops.
- Disqualification
– There is a HOLD on registration for classes. Students are required
to take a
temporary leave from De Anza for 1 quarter. If students are already
making
successful progress academically and hope to continue taking De Anza
classes, they must complete an Appeal
Form with an advisor/counselor. If the Dean of Counseling and
Matriculation approves the appeal, HOLDs will be
removed and students will only be allowed to enroll in
approved courses only. If the Appeal is approved, then the HOLD will be
cleared within 2-3 working days.
Important: All required interventions must be
completed
by the deadline specific to each quarter.
Please refer to the deadline information.
Removal from Academic
Probation:
Students will be removed from academic probation when their accumulated
GPA is 2.0 or higher.
