De Anza faculty and staff are invited to sign up for the hands-on workshops below. You can also make an appointment with David Garrido if none of the times works for you.

All hands-on workshops will be hosted in LCW 16, located on the lower level of Library West, unless otherwise noted.

Online Teaching with Catalyst

Faculty can use Catalyst to supplement their traditional face-to-face courses, or offer hybrid and/or distance learning courses. If you intend to teach a course using this system, you are required to complete training first. Interested faculty can contact the Distance Learning Center for details.

Catalyst training starts with an online portion that covers basic Catalyst features as well as information and policies around course development. You can request an account and participate in the online course any time. Please contact David Garrido (garridodavid@fhda.edu  or 408.864.8970) to sign up for training. Here are the hands-on workshops for this quarter:

Part I: Online Teaching with Catalyst Basic

     Monday, January 23, 2012, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
     Thursday, February 2, 2012, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
     Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

This hands-on workshop is part of the required training for any De Anza faculty who will be using Catalyst. In the workshop you will learn to create course content, add resources and activities, and use communication tools.

Part II: Catalyst Assessment Tools

    Monday, Febrary 6, 2012, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Wednesday, February 29, 2012, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

This workshop focuses on assignment, quiz and gradebook features in Catalyst. Basic knowledge and experienced with Catalyst is recommended.

 

Catalyst Advanced Topics

    Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon

This new workshop will cover topics including gradebook functions and customization, lesson, groups, etc. We will also talk about some known bugs and workarounds.

 

Effective Practices Showcase

Mark your calendars now for the second De Anza Online Teaching and Learning Effective Practices Showcase! This is your opportunity to see other De Anza faculty give quick demonstrations of teaching ideas and technology they are using successfully in their online, hybrid, and Web-enhanced classes today. In just 90 minutes, you'll walk away with ideas you can apply to teaching your classes. If you'd like to be a presenter, please contact David Garrido (garridodavid@fhda.edu  or 408.864.8970) with your 10-minute idea. The workshop will take place in LCW 26.
