Instructor Information: Linda Hurkmans
Linda Hurkmans, M.A., has been an instructor in the De Anza College Psychology Dept. since 2000, and
regularly teaches courses in General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and
the Psychology of Women. She is currently an Interim Full-time instructor in the Psychology Department at Mission College. She has also taught at Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and at West
Valley College. She holds a Bachelor's in Fine Arts, Cum Laude, in Ballet from the
University of Utah and a Master's degree in Psychology, with an Emphasis in Chemical Dependency from
the University of Notre Dame. She has worked as a therapist, psycho-educational instructor, clinical
supervisor, and administrator at various non-profit agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area, such as the
Daystar Foster Care Agency, and the Family and Children Services. She was the Director of
Rehabilitation Services for The Salvation Army in San Jose, a 6-month residential program for 90
patients recovering from addiction. She oversaw paid staff and graduate level clinical interns and
Certified Drug and Alcohol Counseling interns, as well as interfacing with the criminal justice system,
social services, and mental health services.
Prof. Hurkmans is an interim fulltime professor at Mission College. For the Abnormal Psychology course, Ms. Hurkmans enjoys working with students
and sharing her knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and effective treatment of mental disorders.
