An introduction to macroeconomics. Topics covered will include national income accounting, money and the banking system, money and the price level, classical macro theory, Keynesian macro theory, monetary and fiscal policy, and international trade.

I have been teaching economics online at DeAnza for more than 20 years and
really enjoy using
Catalyst to deliver both Econ 1 and 2. Before returning to full-time teaching
at Skyline College in San
Bruno 20 years ago, I worked for Bank of America. When I left BofA my job title
was Vice President and
Group Product Manager. I was in charge of designing, building, and installing
large scale computer
systems for BofA's World Banking Division. I left the bank to return to
teaching because after awhile
helping BofA make bigger profits did not bring enough satisfaction and I wanted
to share with others

STUDYING EACH WEEK'S ASSIGNMENTS:
The primary course content comes from the readings. You must
with all reading assignments as they will be the basis for

Aplia: Aplia exercises for each week of the course are found
at Aplia.com and can be linked from the course homepage.
Extra Credit: In addition to the Aplia exercises, the course
includes a number of extra-credit opportunities which
generally require a
little more reading and analysis. These are strictly
optional but can be used to
improve your final grade in the class. (Earning 30 or more
extra credit points
can make a half-grade difference in your final grade.) Extra
opportunities will be announced on the News Forum and can be
turned in any
order, at any time.
There will be 3 chatroom sessions scheduled before each of
the 3 online
exams. The best way to prepare for these is to make a list
of the questions
you have for each major section of the class.

Students who are unable to participate in the chats should
focus their study
for the exams by reviewing the textbook chapters, Powerpoint
slides, and Quick Practice Questions. Exam topics will also
be published several days
before the exams
The first two exams will consist of multiple-choice and
questions. The third exam will be all short-essay questions.
Online Exam #1: Due by Thursday, May 1, before
Online Exam #2: Due by Thursday, May 29, before
Online Exam #3: Due by Thursday, June 26, before midnight.
Exam Scores: Exam scores will be available about one week
scheduled exam. All exams will be evaluated on a class
