Meet Annie Kong

Annie Kong

Custodian Annie Kong has worked at De Anza for 13 years, and considers the campus her second home. “I learned English from courses that I took at De Anza,” Kong says. “Consequently, I am happy working here and giving back to De Anza students and staff.”

Selda Sigala-Aguilar, academic adviser in the Student Success Center, calls Kong an angel. “Annie takes such pride in keeping the Campus Center neat and clean, even though she has acquired more building space on campus to maintain,” Sigala-Aguilar says, referring to the years she worked in the EOPS office. “She often checked with us to see to our needs and explained her plans for deep cleaning or shampooing the carpets when it would not interrupt our activities. Annie made an effort to get the restrooms ready for staff and students before they started their days.”

Kong also helps set up outdoor events for college days and outreach activities. Despite fewer custodial staff to clean and maintain the campus and more building space to care for, Kong says she takes pride in knowing that she provides a clean environment for everyone on campus. “I hope that, through my efforts, De Anza can become a second home to everyone.”
