Meet Nila NineNila Nine, Dining Services operations coordinator, came to the United States in the spring of 2004 from Cambodia. “I started working at the Campus Center in 2004 as a student assistant and ended my job when I graduated from De Anza in 2007,” Nine says. He transferred to San Jose State and graduated from its hospitality program in 2010.
“Nila cut his teeth here as a student employee," says Campus Center Director Patrick Gannon. "Not on our tough meat, but learning the culinary ropes.” Nine quickly became a cashier and then a student manager.
Gannon says Nine truly understands the meaning of customer service, which shows in his interaction at all levels of the community. “Nila volunteered to create a student handbook, which will ultimately help orientate new student workers,” Gannon says.
Nine says he enjoys his job because he gets to work with a great team and interact with Dining Service customers every day. “I also have the opportunity to learn and improve my hospitality skills to better contribute to the school and my future in this career,” he says.
