Meet Carmen Pereida, Employee of the Month
As program coordinator for Cooperative Education, successfully working with students, faculty, classified staff and administrators is second nature for Carmen Pereida.
"One of the reasons I really like my job is because it provides me the forum to do what I love to do," says Pereida. "Students energize me. When we explore career options and they finally make the connection between school and work, I see the sparkle in their eyes and their minds expanding to new possibilities."
Prior to coming to De Anza in 1993, Pereida worked at the Middlefield Campus as a registration supervisor. Her nominator, Paula Ahrens, says, "Carmen is amazing. She has single-handedly run all facets of Cooperative Education for years, and adapts and overcomes regardless of the obstacle." Ahrens says Pereida's work provides a significant amount of WSCH to instruction each quarter.
Pereida also enjoys serving on committees and likes the outcome of the collaborative decisions they make. "I've been involved in the Latina/o Student Recognition Committee and together we've raised more than $25,000 for student scholarships." Pereida has also served as a Classified Senator for two years.
"Working at De Anza has allowed me to explore and expand my analytical perspectives and express my artistic side," she says.
