| Description: |
The concert includes De Anza Chorale, De Anza Vintage Singers, De Anza Women's Chorus, and the Santa Clara Mens' Chorus. The combined choruses will sing Vivaldi's famous Gloria, with the De Anza Chamber Orchestra. The piece will be conducted by Dr. Ilan Glasman. In addition, each chorus will perform separately. The Vintage Singers will perform Benjamin Britten's Hymn To St. Cecilia. The Chorale will perform David Dickau's If Music Be Food Of Love and a spiritual, arranged by Robert De Cormier, entitled Let Me Fly. The Women's Chorus is singing five pieces, ranging from Baroque Era to the present. This includes two transcriptions for treble voices: Handel's O Had I Jubal's Lyre (a soprano aria from Joshua) and Mozart's Soave Sia Il Vento (a trio from the opera Cosi Fan Tutte) plus two songs by California composers Armand Russell - The Guiding Light - and Lothar Bandermann - O God Of Love, O King Of Peace. The chorus will also sing a setting by James Mullholland of Think On Me, a moving poem written by Mary Queen Of Scots during the later half of the 16th century when she was imprisoned and (eventually after 19 years) executed. There will be additional surprises. $2 Parking permits can be purchased at the machines in the parking lot. |
