James Ahern - Speech Communication

U.S. Supreme Court Speech

Prepare and present a four to six minute speech about a U.S. Supreme Court decision. The purpose of this assignment is to have you read and analyze a Supreme Court decision. Focus on the issue that was raised in the case, analyze the reasoning, and review the decision.

You will discuss the issue/issues raised in the case, present the background of the case and the Court’s ruling. As part of your presentation, state your position about the case and your reasoning.

Use 4x6 note cards, deliver your remarks extemporaneously (not read or memorized), and establish eye contact. This assignment is worth thirty points.

Follow the outline format at the bottom of this page, prepare a one page synopsis about a U.S. Supreme Court decision and submit that synopsis on the day of your speech.

E-mail the name and citation of your U.S. Supreme Court case to ahernjames@fhda.edu by Sunday, October 25 (midnight). Also, state in the subject area of your e-mail Speech 1 plus your section number. Five points will be deducted for late submissions.

The earliest e-mail submission will determine who will speak about a particular case if there are two or more students seeking to report on the same case.
