1. Daniel, who is three years old, has been found to have an allergy to peanuts. He is highly allergic. What measures will you take in your early childhood education environment to see that he is not exposed to any type of peanut product? 2. Kevin and Kyle, 3 year old twins, were rubbing their eyes a great deal. Kevin also had white discharge coming from his left eye. Donna, their child care provider, noticed this and suspected that both boys had pink eye(conjunctivitis. She informed the boy's mother when they were picked up. The next morning, Donna woke up with red, watery eyes. How should Donna proceed for the day? If Kevin and Kyle arrive at the center that morning, should they be allowed to stay? How would you handle this situation? 3. While you are helping Maria (a four year old) put her coat on you notice some bruises on her arm. As her childcare provider what steps will you take in this case? 4. Bridget is a teacher in a family home with six children in her care. They range in ages from one and a half to seven years. The seven-year-old comes right before and after school and stays until 6pm. Bridget wants to plan good menus for all of the children, yet does not want to act as a short-order cook. Help her by planning a menu for one day for snacks and meals from 6 am to 6 pm. Remember, Bridget is concerned about cost and tries to keep her weekly menus low in cost, while at the same time providing good, nutritious food. 5. Jerrod is a teacher in a class full of children from other cultures. He is trying to teach basic nutrition, but many children are not familiar with some of the foods he is talking about. What do you suggest he do to be more prepared to deal with nutrition for children from several cultures? 50 points - possible 10 points for each question. |
