Attendance
It is important that you stay connected to our course. Being present with us online during class meetings is required and is imperative. If you do not attend three online class meetings and do not contact me, I may drop you from the course. If you definitely want to be dropped from the course YOU should make sure, you drop yourself. If you do not drop (and I do not – I am not required), it is still YOUR responsibility. If you were not dropped but you wanted to be, and it is after the drop date, you will still get a non-passing grade that CANNOT be changed.
You are responsible for getting any info you missed. Most class meetings will be recorded and found within Canvas Conferzoom,
Required Materials/Access
Access to Aleks (Online Adaptive Learning and Homework System)
Most of the exams, homework and quizzes will be done within the software called Aleks. A code to register at Aleks.com is provided in the first module of Canvas. McGraw-Hill has decided not to charge students for access because of the Pandemic. For your user name, please use the first letter of your first name followed by your last name. Click here if you need more details on how to register on Aleks.
You will need to make an account on Aleks by the first Wed. of the quarter. Once you enter Aleks, you will take a short tutorial showing you how to answer different problem typed. If you leave the program and your work will be saved.
After the short tutorial on editing, an assessment will pop up. This assessment does not count in your grade. You should answer each question honestly without using any resources. Students take longer to finish assignments on Aleks if they really did not know the material because they used a resource to answer the question(s). Aleks can randomly give you an assessment that takes you back to the beginning problems if you really did not know the material.
Due dates for homework assignments are given within Aleks. Please go to your Aleks calendar at least twice a week to KEEP TRACK of due dates! Assignments within a week will always be due by Sunday 11:30pm.
Text Book
You will have access to the ebook on Aleks. The textbook is titled, ”Elementary Statistics, 3rd Ed. ” written by Navidi/Monk. Within the book there are interactive questions with answers to help you learn the material before entering an assignment. I highly recommend doing some of these if you are struggling with any topics.
Technology

Note: if your calculator is other than a TI, you will need to learn how to use it on your own.
Virtual TI Calculator for Free
To support teachers and students during COVID-19, Texas Instruments is providing a free six-month subscription of the TI-SmartVIew CE Emulator Software for the TI-84 Plus Graphing Family.
Students can obtain a six-month subscription for the TI-SmartVIew CE by completing the request form

Quizzes and Homework
Many of your quizzes and homework assignments will be on Alek’s. Other quizzes will be group quizzes on Canvas. Other Homework will be in the form of worksheets that will either be available on Canvas or Aleks. The instructor will let you know. Your five best quizzes will count in your grade. There are no makeup quizzes.
In-Class-Collaborative Work
On many days, you will collaborate with others in an online virtual room. Groups will receive one or two problems from the previous day’s homework or worksheet. All members in the group are expected to participate. All members of the group will receive the same grade for the work shown. One member of the group will need to take a picture of the work done on the white board and upload the file into the group assignment. Group assignments are labeled G followed by the week followed by a letter. For instance, G1b represents the group-work assignment for the first week. The letter b denotes that the assignment is the 2nd group-work in that week (G1a was the first group-work assignment).
If your group is not working out for any reason, please email the instructor immediately. The 10 best scores will be counted in your grade. There is no make-up work for a missed collaboration.
Labs
There will be three collaborative statistics labs. These labs are to be done using the graphing calculator to assess your ability to crunch numbers using technology. Do not compute values by hand. Lab projects must be done in groups of at least two but not than four. If you turn in a lab by yourself (without a lab partner), you will lose 10% since Math 10 is a GE course and collaboration is a requirement for GE courses. If you turn in a lab late, you will lose 10% each day. No late labs will be accepted three days after the lab was due.
Exams
There will be three exams each worth one hundred points. There may be two parts to an exam. On the first part, you will work alone. On the second part, you will collaborate with other classmates. For the second part you will need to upload your whiteboard work by 11:30pm that night.
Exams are based or homework, group-work, quizzes and lecture.
There are no makeup exams. If you miss an exam your percent on the final will replace that exam score.
Final Exam
A comprehensive exam will be given. If you miss the exam without contacting the instructor before the exam, you will automatically receive a 0% on the final.

Policy on Cheating
Students who submit the work of others as their own will receive a failing grade on that assignment and are reported to college authorities.
