Carlos De La Cerda, landscaper
for the Grounds Department
Award criteria: In the 11 years De La Cerda has worked at
De Anza College, he has been a very diligent worker who takes great
pride in the overall appearance of the campus. His primary responsibility
is taking care of all the gardens. De La Cerda has made a significant
contribution to the beautiful new landscaping and has an outstanding
attendance record. His nominator said, “I can always count on
Carlos to get the job done, and I’m happy to have him as a member
of my crew.”
Specifics: After working at Hewlett Packard for 15 years,
De La Cerda was hired as a temporary custodian at De Anza. He was eventually
hired full time and promoted to his current position. “I take
pride in my work. I have never received a complaint,” De La Cerda
said.

Maria Salazares, custodian for
College Services
Award criteria: As lead custodian for the day shift, Salazares
is very focused on delivering excellent service. In her 8 years at De
Anza, she has made great contributions to the high quality of service
to our campus. Salazares personally addresses each call for custodial
service promptly and immediately dispatches someone to take care of
the situation. Her nominator said, “I have the greatest respect
for her professional, friendly and always positive work attitude and
her can-do spirit.”
Specifics: Salazares loves working with the other custodians.
“I have been doing my best since I came to De Anza, and everybody
is very helpful. That’s what I like about working here,”
she said.

Mary K. Clark, curriculum/catalog
coordinator for the Scheduling Office
Award criteria: Clark oversees the formation of course
descriptions in the catalog. Her duties include maintaining a
database of course titles and descriptions, monitoring the language
of course descriptions to ensure they follow state requirements,
and notifying faculty when their courses need to be updated. Clark
also works with the articulation officer to make sure descriptions
of G.E. courses adhere to state policies. In addition to her regular
duties, Clark serves on the Curriculum and General Education Review
Committees. “Mary is a positive person, a pleasure to work
with, has a great sense of humor and is dedicated to her work,”
her nominator said.
Specifics: Clark credits her colleagues at De Anza
for her ability to progress and move on to other positions. “I
know that I will strive to do the best job I can as long as I
have a department like mine and faithful colleagues on my team,”
she said. In the future, Clark hopes to become a counselor so
she can assist students in continuing their education.  |
