James Nguyen - Political Science & ICS

Biography

Corral Dunes in Utah I'm a Political Science and Inter-Cultural Studies instructor at De Anza and I am also assistant director of the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute on campus. My main focus is on student success and empowerment at De Anza and in our community, so please utilize me as a resource! I am more than glad to help, and if I don't have the answer, I will make sure to point you in the right direction.

About me: I am a second-generation Vietnamese-American born and raised here in the Bay Area. I have family both here and in Vietnam still. I attended community college and eventually transferred to UC. I received a law degree and worked with underserved populations in Sacramento, Oakland and San Jose with legal representation, community outreach, and advocacy. Prior to teaching, I worked for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (San Jose) doing both policy and community liaison work, particularly with the Asian Pacific Islander community in San Jose.

My academic areas of interest include American Politics, Constitutional Law, Law and Politics, Asian American Politics and Law. I am also teaching ICS 20 and ICS 22 (Asian American Studies) and I look forward to seeing you in class

I enjoy spending time with my wife Linda and our daughter Tessa. I also enjoy fishing, running, fantasy sports and I am a huge fan of the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team.

I look forward to meeting you in my course and to partner with you for academic success.
