B.A. English, Brigham Young University; M.A. Humanities, Brigham Young University; Ph.D. Coursework, The George Washington University
With specialties in English, composition, British literature, humanities, business, technical writing and resumes, I have been teaching for 2 decades. I began at Brigham Young University where I taught courses in Western Humanities. Next I taught at Utah Valley State College in the English and Humanties departments. Then, I landed at De Anza College in California's Bay Area (my native state) where I teach English, Literature, Food Writing, Technical Writing, Business, and Reading.

In addition to my career as a college professor, I worked in corporate America in a number of capacities. In Boston, New York City, and Washington D.C., I functioned as a marketing and strategic planning consultant, National Training Manager, and professional trainer/writer for clients such as American Express, AT&T, General Motors, and Princeton University. I also worked at Franklin Covey as a Developer of personal and professional effectiveness seminars and at Ameritech Library Services as a Technical Writer.

I received an American Express Special Recognition Award and The Society for Technical Communicators Excellence in User’s Guides Award. I have presented papers at several conferences, presented employment workshops for national organizations such as PMI (Project Management Institute), spoken at The Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of California Conference, and been published in technical marketing magazines and academic journals.

I am a big proponent of traveling and studying abroad. As an undergraduate, I did a 6 month program in London and toured around Western Europe. As a faculty director, I have taken students on three different study abroad programs: an art history month abroad to 10 European countries; a 3 month quarter in Salamanca, Spain; and a 3 month quarter to London, England. I have also studied International Business in Spain, participated in a Fulbright program to Jordan where I studied Arabic and human rights, and worked as an Education Consultant in Guatemala.
