Groundskeeping

The Grounds Team, under the direction of the Chief of Safety and Security at De Anza College, consists of ten full-time and the one temporary employee, working approximately 10 hours per day, seven days a week. The Grounds Team provides exceptional grounds maintenance, field maintenance, tree trimming, cultivating, irrigation services and special events. The Grounds Team is responsible for all outside maintenance of the campus, including landscaping, parking lots, parking structure, roadways, and walkways. The landscape of the campus accents the natural beauty of the campus. The campus has more than 100 oak, palm, sycamore, and a large amount of redwood trees which the crew maintains preservation. The natural beauty of the lawns throughout the campus further enhances the campus.

The Grounds Team maintains all athletic fields, making sure the fields are properly set-up for all football, baseball, soccer, tennis tournaments and any other special event, including the flea market, which has become a big event held on the first Saturday of each month.

The Grounds Team is responsible for maintaining inventories of all furniture and supplies that require storage in our warehouse. When the need arises, we are responsible for tagging furniture that could be salvaged.

The Grounds Team stays current with the latest techniques in landscaping, irrigation, and field maintenance, inventories control and the support role they assume during emergency preparedness. The Grounds Team plays a large part in the recycling program for the college.

The Grounds Team works closely with the Custodial Team, the athletic department, the district maintenance department, and other members of the College Services Team. The Grounds Team works hard to excel in every level, maintaining good relations with faculty, staff and students in a warm friendly atmosphere.

For more information, please call Grounds Team at (408) 864-8862 or e-mail us at covingtonrobert@deanza.edu.
