Nellie Vargas - Child Development

Biography

My islandI was born in Oakland, California and later on moved to the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico where I received part of my education. I also had the opportunity to lived in different places but spent most of my life between California and Puerto Rico.

I taught in the preschool, elementary and adult education system for 12 years in Puerto Rico, Wisconsin and California. I also worked for the NAVY- Naval Air Station in Alameda, California as a Family Home Care Auditor serving the military families and for ESO, Inc. (Economic Social Opportunities for families and individuals) as an Early Childhood Education Coordinator.

I hold a full-time California Adult Teaching Credential from San Jose State University, a Child Development Program Director Permit from California Department of Education- Child Development Division and a Parent Educator Certificate- Parents as Teachers Program Prenatal to Kindergarten entry from Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc. from Saint Louis, MO.

I am a member of the National Honor Society in Family and Consumer Sciences, National Association for the Education of Young Children and California Community College Early Childhood Educators.

MS. in Home Economics/ Families Studies and Human Development-  University of Wisconsin
Ed. D. in Education / Higher Education and Adult Learning (Candidate)- University of Chicago,IL

Other special interests include:

Travel, religion, music and to learn different languages.
