The Advanced Technology Center

1995 marked the opening of a new technology facility on the De Anza Campus. The Film/Television department occupies over twenty thousand square feet of the building, which is networked with optical fiber and broadband. This facility is equipped with the most current, sophisticated tools and technology in presentation, audio, television, editing and production. Here, students are provided with the skills necessary to succeed in the film and video profession in an environment that integrates digital technology into all aspects of production.

Presentation Classrooms:
The Screening Room is a 125 seat presentation/analysis facility equipped with theater seating, full screen video and computer projection, interlocked film projectors, MAC OS and Windows computing, Web and satellite access, JBL theater sound and sources in all formats. Two additional 35 seat fully mediated classroom/ analysis spaces are also used by the department.

Media Laboratories:
Digital media is used throughout the department in all aspects of production and presentation. Three spaces are of special note.

A 21 station SGI O2 computer laboratory with Soft Image 3D installed.

A media lab with 30 Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel processor computers with a broad selection of graphic, web, animation, audio and video software.

An open student scriptwriting and production management laboratory equipped with Macintosh computing and appropriate software.

Sound Stage:
A 4000 square foot fully equipped sound stage is used by students in film, television and animation production courses. Equipment includes lighting, grip and gaff, Ikegami cameras on hydraulic pedestals, teleprompting, a video control room, audio control room and an engineering recording room.

Foley Studio:
A separate audio studio with digital time code synchronization, Mackey DS8 console, 24 channels of digital hard disc recording, DAT, and digital non-linear audio is installed for production and post-production Foley, ADR, and sweetening.

Film Production:
Students enrolled in film production courses have access to production and editing facilities. The department provides sync and non-sync Bolex, Arri and Eclair 16 MM cameras and support equipment including light kits, grip, timecode slates, audio mixers, microphones, and audio recorders in 1/4" analog and DAT. Students either edit film on one of six multi-plate editing systems by Moville or Steen beck or transfer to digital non-linear systems.

Video Production:
Students enrolled in the advanced digital video production courses are provided with acquisition equipment in Mini DV. Portable lighting kits, grip and audio are also available to video students.

Editing:
The Film/TV Department is equipped with 22 Non-linear edit suites using Final Cut Pro. Students using film have access to traditional film editing suites, including KEM flatbeds.
