Program Reviews

 - Custodial

Manny  DaSilva presented the Custodial Operations program review. He drew attention to the lack of staffing in the department and how this impacts the APPA (The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers has quantified workload measures into six standardized ‘levels of attention’) ratings for the Campus. DaSilva commended the crew on the amount of work performed with the limited staffing resources available. The team acknowledged and thanked DaSilva and the custodians for their hard work. The team also commended the department's commitment to sustainable practices.

DaSilva shared with the team an organizational chart of the custodial department. It reflected the current positions as well as the eight positions that have been eliminated due to budget cuts.  DaSilva is requesting funding for these positions so the department would be fully staffed. DaSilva noted that it is a testament to the crew that they have been able to keep the campus tidy and safe despite being eight positions down.

In the program review DaSilva also listed items that the department would need to buy and/or replace in the next few years due to expiration of life expectancy and advances in technology.  The list included major capital equipment items such as carts, carpet shampooers, wet/dry vacuums, wood strippers as well as minor equipment items such as vacuums, brooms, paper towel dispensers, hand wash dispensers, etc.

- Grounds

Joe Cooke presented the Grounds Operations program review. He highlighted the lack of employees in the department and how this impacts the APPA (The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers has quantified workload measures into six standardized ‘levels of attention’) ratings for the Campus. Cooke commended his crew on the amount of work performed with the limited staffing resources available. The team acknowledged and thanked Cooke and the grounds crew for their hard work. The team noted that their had received compliments on the campus grounds and the department's commitment to sustainable practices.

Cooke shared with the team an organizational chart of how the grounds department should be staffed. He highlighted that the college had eliminated four positions due to budget cuts in recent years and that the grounds department would like to have these positions back so the department would be fully staffed. Cooke also noted that it is a testament to the crew that they have been able to keep the campus tidy and safe despite being four positions down.

In the program review Cook also listed items that the department would need to buy and/or replace in the next few years due to expiration of life expectancy and advances in technology e.g. new computerized irrigation system. The list included major capital equipment items such as tractors, carts, lawnmowers as well as minor equipment items such as blowers, trimmers, pruners, etc.
