Program Review – Year of Reflection:

The agenda item was an opportunity for IPBT members to have a conversation and discuss the program review cycle and the year of reflection.

  • IPBT completed the 5-year cycle of comprehensive program reviews last year
  • This year is The Year of Reflection
  • What are the goals and outcomes?
  • What is the role of the IPBT?

Lee-Wheat provided historical information about the “DAC Detailed Planning Cycle 2011-2017” - "quilt chart" as a strategic planning plan.

*Footnote: ICC - Institutional Core Competency

Discussion followed regarding developing better questions to obtain the data the state is requesting. The task for IPBT is to think about questions for the annual program review. Tying them into the Institutional Core Competencies (ICC) with equity being the focus this year.

  • Curriculum changes?
  • Where is the data to support this?
  • Examples of using technology and student learning
  • Are there variances between student groups in individual classes vs. the department? Why are some groups doing better than others?
  • Focusing on Equity gaps. Addressing the goals of the college
  • How to help to enhance dept/prog achieving equity goals?
  • Let’s ask questions about retention within certain populations?
  • Look at gap analysis of where you’re at and where you want to be
  • What’s working and what are the challenges?
  • Are there changes in student population?
  • Why does the equity gap continue? If students are more engaged, participating, more excited
  • What are we doing to shift curriculum with examples of Nursing and AutoTech research
  • Developing a transparent process
  • What does success look like?
  • What does retention look like?
  • Do we have a clear process of how resources are allocated?

This year the focus is on the Educational Master Plan, the guiding document for the institution.  Where will we be in 5 or 10 years? Is the annual program review process working for us? This will be especially important for the next ACCJC visit in 2017.

The data and all information will be compiled and used to inform the next educational master plan update.
