Meeting Notes - February 16, 2017

Attending Members: Argyriou, Cook (co-chair), Cortez, Doan, Glapion (co-chair), Kirkpatrick, LeBleu-Burns, Mieso, Phillips, Robles, Shears, Ward, White-Daniels

There were no amendments to the notes and one added to the agenda.

Student Services Newsletter

  • To assist with good, clear communication in the Student Services areas.
  • Each area will need to provide a point person to gather the content to send in.
  • Links to other information or newsletters are welcome.
  • Would like to have one every quarter to start with.

SSSP Year End Report for 2015-16

 Position Requests

  • Sheila presented two new positions to be reviewed and approved.
    • Student Success Specialist & Program Coordinator II
      • They would support the new Starfish Early Alert software
      • Funded by SSSP
    • Both positions were approved by the SSPBT Committee

Program & Committee Updates

    - Argyriou reported on the their Language Arts Division Meeting.

  • The STEM Counselor, Veteran Services, Outreach, Men of Color all presented at the Language Arts Division Meeting.
    • Tamica Ward, Bianca Lopez and Katie Marquez, Veteran's Services
    • Yvette Campbell, Director STEM Success Program
    • Umar Douglas and Erick Aragon, Men of Color Community
    • Developmental math for basic skill students, food pantry, and career services information was presented as well.

    - Mieso reported on Common Assessment and Multiple Measures

  • Working on a consistent District wide retest policy.
  • We are participating in a Common Measures pilot program for testing students that will include a promotion for student participation.
  • Clarification is needed for placements tests regarding priority registration and the SSSP mandates.
    • Update:  According to the enrollment priority specs placement is considered to be fulfilled if both placement tests are taken. See the criteria listed below:
    1. Determining if Placement criterion has been fulfilled -
      Functional:  Placement is a Yes if Banner shows that the student has fulfilled both Math and (English or ESL) placement criteria as follows:
      • Math placement requirement EITHER by completing a MATH class with an acceptable grade OR by clearing the Math Placement Test OR having an AP clearance OR by having Transfer classes

        AND
      • English placement requirement EITHER by completing an (ENGL or ESL or ESLL) class with an acceptable grade OR by clearing the English Placement Test OR having an AP clearance OR by having Transfer classes

    - Cortez reported on the Calendar of Events for the Student Success & Retention
      Services Center.
