Student Success Services
De Anza has a number of existing student success and counseling programs and services
to help new students transition to the new challenges of college life, as well as
support current students in reaching their academic goals.
IMPACT AAPI is expanding these programs, which are already targeted toward historically underrepresented and first-generation college students, to include resources tailored for the educational needs and experiences of AAPI students.
IMPACT AAPI focuses on:
- Embedded counseling
- Peer Mentoring
- Student Success Class
Two IMPACT AAPI counselors, Tom Nguyen and Erick Aragon engage students inside and outside the classroom. They encourage and support students in their educational goals.
The Peer Mentoring Program is a year-round academic program that provides leadership in the IMPACT AAPI community (e.g. APALI; CREM; LinC Courses). Mentors help new students in making the transition to college life and learning how to succeed as members of the larger community.
Tutors are available to help students in specific IMPACT AAPI classes. To learn more about tutoring, visit the Student Success Center.
Student Success Class
The focus of this service is closing the achievement gap between our targeted AAPI subgroups and historically higher-performing AAPI subgroups. The Student Success Class includes varying levels of Cohort Learning, Integrated Student Services (such as counseling, peer mentoring, and tutoring), and Culturally-Specific Content. To learn, please visit our Curricular Pathways.
IMPACT AAPI provides college transfer and scholarship workshops. To learn more, visit the Student Success Center's workshop calendar.
