About LinC

Three smiling students.

The LinC program at De Anza celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2006. We congratulate the faculty, counselors, administrators, staff and students who continue to be involved and committed to the quality education it provides.

This program is one of five from colleges and universities throughout the country selected to participate in a national learning communities study titled "Pathways to College Success." The study is being conducted by Syracuse University and is funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

In addition, the LinC program has received a $250,000 grant from the Irvine Foundation through MDRC for our project to infuse student services and counseling into all learning communities along with creating new course sequences of learning communities in the PSME, Language Arts, and Social Sciences Divisions.

What students say about Learning Communities:

"I felt closer to the teachers and especially the students. I've never had this much interaction with my classmates before!"

"I felt in a group not just of teachers and classmates, but of supporters and friends."

"If I didn't understand something in one class, we could discuss it in the other class in the learning community."

"In our learning community, we had more interaction between teacher-teacher, teacher-classmate, and classmate-classmate. Not only were we a class group, we were also an excellent team of friends!"

"I got lots of different points of view from my classmates."
