Conversation Practice for ESL Learners

ESL 210 is a conversation practice class. You will use your English actively to talk about your experiences and to get to know your classmates and their backgrounds in a small group setting (6 - 8 people). You will also work on your conversation skills outside of class conducting interviews on different topics. In addition, you may be asked to listen to speakers in online recordings or do a little research to prepare for class discussion. You should put in about 2 hours of preparation a week for this class.

There are 6 sections being offered this quarter:

Monday 9:30 am - 10:50 am
Tuesday 11:30 am - 12:50 pm
Tuesday 6:00 pm - 7:20 pm
Wednesday 1:30 pm - 2:50 pm
Thursday 11:00 am - 12:20 pm
Friday 10:30 am - 11:50 am

Listening in Context

ESL 211 focuses on listening practice and discussion. You will use your English actively to talk about your ideas and to share the ideas of your classmates. You will also work on your conversation skills outside of class conducting interviews on different topics related to technology and the media. In addition, you may be asked to listen to a radio show or watch a television sitcom for class discussion.

Vocabulary and Idioms in Context

ESL 213 is a small group class that emphasizes the development of vocabulary and the use of idioms in context. Every week, we will focus on a different topic which will give you a chance to expand your vocabulary in different contexts through music, television, film, and/or reading materials. You may also be asked to visit idiom or other helpful websites to prepare for class discussion. You should put in about 2 hours of preparation a week for this class.
