Latina/Latino Graduation and Transfer Ceremony and Scholarship 2017 (updated 04/20/17)

ADELA Scholarship

Each year De Anza awards ADELA scholarship(s) (see how to apply below) based on fundraising efforts and hosts a recognition ceremony for all graduating and transfer students who wish to participate. Last year, we awarded three $1,000 scholarships and hope to increase the number of scholarships this year. The deadline to apply for the ADELA scholarship is Friday, May 26th.

Latina/o Student Recognition Ceremony and Reception

Friday, June 23
6 - 9 p.m.
Visual and Performing Arts Center

LRC logoSTUDENTS: To participate in the ceremony as a graduate, meet with a counselor or academic advisor to confirm your graduation and/or transfer plans and complete the participation form for the Latina/o Recognition Ceremony, no later than June 2.

FACULTY, STAFF AND FRIENDS: Join in the celebration!.

We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational student speaker to address the community at the June 23 event.


Write one page describing your journey so far as a Latina/Latino college student, with the following focus:

  • Discuss what your education has meant for you and your family and the importance of education for the Latino community.
  • Also include a discussion of specific obstacle that you faced and overcame so far in your educational journey, and who or what helped you to overcome these obstacles.

Drop off a hard copy of your speech to Jorge Morales by noon on Friday, June 3rd, in the LCW Building, Room 102. Please include your name, email and phone number on your submission.


The selection will be made on Friday, June 9th. Note: Finalists will be required to deliver their speech to the selection committee on a date TBD. If selected, the committee will offer support and guidance as you work on your speech and will hold at least one rehearsal prior to the  day of the ceremony.

Students are eligible to apply for the ADELA scholarship if they plan on transferring to a four year university in the Fall of 2017 and/or have applied for graduation, and have submitted the online registration form for the Latina/Latino Graduation Ceremony.
