Science Center Grand Opening
See
science demonstrations and take tours of the new 46,400-square-foot biology
and chemistry complex at the October 1, 2004 grand opening. The ceremony will
take place in the outdoor classroom area of the new Science Center, a three-building
complex in the southwestern quadrant of our campus.
The keynote speaker is Ned Barnholt, Agilent Chairman, President and CEO. Agilent
is a generous donor to the Science Center, as well as Seagate Technology, Asset
Management, Rutter Foundation, Applied Materials, Dr. Kenneth Fong, Gilbane
Building Company and our wonderful community members. Martha Kanter, Chancellor
of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District and Brian Murphy, the new
President of De Anza College, will also be speakers at the event.
The ceremony will last from 12:30 p.m. to about 1:30 p.m., followed by tours
and science demonstrations in the buildings. The complex will be open for visitors
until 4:30 p.m., so even if you can't attend the ceremony, please come by later.
We will have information available about our science programs and about the
future changes coming to our environmental science, physics, math and allied
health and nursing areas.
The Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies is under construction and visible
from the new Science Center. Our buildings are LEED certified, which is the
new standard adopted by the U.S. Green Building Council. The council sets high
compliance requirements for the use of energy,
natural materials and a host of other environmentally friendly factors.
Free parking will be available only in parking lots D and E.
Pathways from these parking lots to the ceremony site will be marked.

opening flyer (PDF).
