Attendance Policy
Attendance is mandatory!
Students enrolled in a Mon., Wed., and Fri. class will be dropped after missing 9 classes.
Students enrolled in a Tues. and Thurs. class will be dropped after missing 6 classes.
Absences due to health reasons will be excused.
Due consideration may be given where extenuating circumstances exist.
Disruptive Behavior Policy
Any student disrupting class may be asked to leave. De Anza College will enforce all procedures set forth in the Student Standards of Conduct (see catalog), and appropriate remedial and/or disciplinary steps will be taken when violations occur.
Parking and Student Drop-off Policy
Adapted Physical Education students must park their vehicles in the college parking lots. The most convenient location for APE students is Lot 'C' on the east side of campus off Stelling Road and up near the entrance to the pool and Physical Education complex. Students with disabilities may park in any staff parking location on campus if they have the appropriate 'D' sticker issued from the DSS office or a state issued placard. The extra-wide 'handicapped' stalls should be reserved for use by students in wheelchairs.
Students with severe mobility problems that makes walking or wheeling the distance from Lot 'C' to PE 13 impossible or inadvisable may use the 'drop-off access road' (see map) to load and unload at PE 13. However, their vehicle must be parked in Lot 'C' during the students class(es). The vehicle must not stay in the loading area or in the access area during classes.
Students taking 'Outreach' or taxis will be dropped-off and picked-up just outside PE 13 (see map). Students are urged to set-up their transportation schedules to coincide with their class schedule.
Personal Hygiene Policy
Students in the APE program are responsible for their personal hygiene needs. The APE program will not provide students with a personal care assistant. The assistants in the APE program exist to help students with disabilities participate in an exercise program only. Each student must be responsible for dressing and undressing, taking their medications, and getting to and using the bathrooms.
Students must not present a health hazard to themselves or others in the classroom. If this is or becomes an issue the student must make arrangements for a personal attendant to accompany them to and from class.
The APE staff will provide minor assistance on a case by case basis. For instance, we usually help students put on or off robes, sweat clothes, or slippers down at the pool. However, we will not provide someone to assist a student in the locker room while getting dressed or taking a shower. In an emergency we will get a student to the bathroom but will not assist them in the bathroom. If the problem become regular, a personal attendant must be arranged if the student wishes to continue.
Attendant Enrollment Policy
Enrollment in APE classes is reserved for students with disabilities, however, people who accompany students to class may also register in the class if they wish to use the facilities and equipment.
