Dr. Brian Murphy was inaugurated as De Anza's 3rd president
on November 17, 2004. Thomas Ehrlich, a senior scholar at The Carnegie
Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching at Stanford University, was
the keynote speaker. Ehrlich's work focuses on enhancing moral and civic
responsibility among undergraduates. His speech, titled "Civic
Passion," (PDF) addressed civic engagement.
