Simon, a De Anza student  

Nithya

When he isn't in class, working or studying for his business degree, Nithya volunteers teaching Cambodian language to youth whose ages range from 5 to 14 years old. He focuses on getting them involved in their learning and finding creative, different ways to teach. Nithya plans to return to Cambodia, his native country, and use his creativity and business skills to help improve the Cambodian economy and make life better for the people who live there.

  

Educational Goal: Transfer to U. C. Berkeley to earn a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Career Goal: Own a business after helping my parents with their construction business.

Free time: Listen to music, go out with friends, play volleyball and practice Cambodian social dancing.

Why De Anza?: Diversity and reputation.

The best thing about De Anza: The diversity on campus. De Anza is a good place to start building experiences and leadership skills.

Biggest fear before starting college: Losing my time for having fun.

One item that is essential for college: Leadership experience.

De Anza in three words: Challenging, enlightening, motivating.

Favorite book: Language Awareness: Readings for College Writers, by Paul Eschholz, et al

What CD is in your player right now?: Hip-hop music.

Favorite movie: The Incredibles

What motivates you?: My friends, family and personal values, which include helping others.

Advice for new students: Take advantage of all services provided, including tutoring, the library and computer lab. Join clubs and senates to build your experiences and leadership skills, which will help all of us to become better people.
