Reading Readiness Program

About Us

The mission of the Reading Readiness Lab is to support and encourage students as they gain and develop new reading skills.

The primary purpose of the Reading Readiness Program is to raise student reading levels to college standards. An average of 700 students enroll each quarter in our Program.

All classes are designed as college-level reading workshops for an entire quarter. Each classroom set up consists of 8-10 students, one teaching associate, and an instructor. Students meet for one class period a week.

Reading Readiness Program classes focus on comprehending and analyzing short editorial essays from current newspapers and magazines. The Reading Readiness Program offers two pass/no pass half-unit classes: READ 202 and 101.

All enrolled students have access to the Instructional Computing Lab located downstairs in the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Rooms 201 and 202.

Kristin Skager is the Coordinator of our Program. Though Kristin has been Coordinator for a short time she brings an enthusiasm to Reading Readiness that is infectious. Send Kristin an e-mail!

Jackie Kritzer is an Instructional Assistant with our Program. Jackie capably directs students to tutoring support, answers all your phone calls and keeps all your paperwork moving in and out of the Readiness lab. Send Jackie an e-mail!

Our Program is also fortunate to have over two dozen teaching associates to assist you each quarter.
