Information for Senior Tutors

"Being a senior tutor has made me really reevaluate what I've learned about tutoring, how to communicate with others, and how much I've grown as a person. Talking to the junior tutors about how I've changed was a great way to end my stay at the WRC. Telling them about how I used to be a person who would never have responsibility, and through the course of the tutoring program and mentoring from my senior tutor, I was able to transform into a person with characteristics to be proud of. If there was one goal that I wanted to achieve by the end of the quarter, then it would be to pay it forward. I wanted to give them a glimpse at all the things that tutoring had to offer them, instead of all the things that they had to offer to the tutee. Hopefully my enthusiasm was able to spur them to consider the opportunities that senior tutoring has to offer, and if it did, then I paid it forward."

Hello Senior Tutors!

Congratulations on being selected and choosing to serve as a Senior Tutor, and thank you for accepting this responsibility. Senior Tutors have a very special role at De Anza's Tutorial Center. Using your demonstrated tutoring and leadership skills, you will help guide several new tutors through tutor training and their first quarter of tutoring.

Here's how it works: Each new tutor is assigned a Senior Tutor at Orientation. As we assign new tutors to your "case load" we will e-mail you with the new tutor's name, e-mail address, phone number and information about what subjects he or she tutors. We also provide the new tutor with your name, e-mail address, and phone number. You will meet with new tutors in your case load at the beginning of the quarter, read and respond to their four journal entries, and watch and review videotapes of their tutoring sessions. Throughout the quarter, you act as a role model, a mentor, and, in general, a helpful and friendly face around the Tutorial Center. You are also an important assistant to your supervisor, so please communicate often and copy supervisors on messages to your new tutors.

Here is some information you will need to begin your work as a Senior Tutor:
