Admission Requirements - CSUTransfer Admission Requirements - Upper Division*The majority of transfer students enter the CSU at the upper-division level (minimum of 90 transferable quarter/60 semester units completed). If you complete 89 or fewer CSU-transferable quarter units by the time you enter the CSU you are considered a lower-division transfer. Very few CSU campuses accept lower-division transfers so it is important to check with a prospective campus if you are considering transfer as a lower-division student. If you are considering transferring to CSU, it is important that you choose courses that will help you to fulfill CSU transfer admission requirements. If you were not CSU-eligible out of high school and plan to transfer to the CSU, you must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission:
As part of the 90 quarter unit requirement for upper-division transfer you must complete a minimum of 45 CSU transferable quarter units of general education (GE) with at least a grade of C or better. The 45 quarter units of GE must include three courses in English Communication (Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking) and Mathematics to be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better prior to transfer. At De Anza, you may select one course from each of the following subject areas:
Many CSU campuses require completion of these four courses by the end of spring term prior to fall transfer; or by the end of summer prior to winter transfer; or by the end of fall prior to spring transfer. However, it is best to complete the English and Mathematics requirements as early as possible. With careful planning and course selection you may be able to meet all or many of the general education, major preparation and CSU graduation requirements while at De Anza, which will facilitate your progress towards graduation from CSU. Students are advised to consult with a De Anza College counselor or academic advisor as early as possible to confirm your choice of classes and to develop an education plan for transfer. To schedule an appointment with a De Anza counselor or academic advisor visit the Counseling & Advising Center, located on the 2nd floor of the Student & Community Services Building. * If you were CSU‐eligible out of high school and plan to transfer with less than 90 quarter (60 semester) units, visit the CSUMentor Web site (www.csumentor.org) to determine if you are eligible to transfer at the lower‐division level and whether the CSU campus of your choice admits lower‐division transfer applicants.
Students are encouraged to meet as early as possible and periodically with a counselor or academic advisor both at De Anza College and at the transfer institution to confirm your choice of classes and to develop an education plan for transfer.
