Impacted Majors - CSU
Program and Campus Impaction - CSU
Many CSU campuses have some impacted majors that require additional admission criteria. Several majors are impacted at one or more but not all of the campuses offering the major. Generally, the majors remain the same from one year to the next, but the criteria are subject to change, and you should contact the campus directly for the most current information.
Detailed information about impacted majors and Supplemental Admission Criteria required for admission to these majors can be accessed at: www.calstate.edu/SAS/impactioninfo.shtml
Under system-wide impaction, each CSU campus has a designated local service area. Local applicants are given preference over other applicants as a means of providing students statewide with access to at least one CSU campus. Priority continues to be given to upper-division transfer students. Non-resident students still have the lowest priority in terms of admission to CSU.
Although system-wide enrollment for new students is subject to restriction, each CSU campus is still required to admit all CSU-eligible students from their local service area. Local applicants must apply for admission during the priority application filing period and must meet all posted deadlines.
In the past a few CSU campuses and programs have been able to accommodate lower-division transfer or second-baccalaureate students at the undergraduate level. Under system-wide impact and per directives from the CSU Chancellor's Office, most CSU campuses will no longer admit lower-division transfers or second-baccalaureate applicants, regardless of major. Check the application filing status report page on CSUMentor or specific CSU campus Web sites for additional information.
Posted deadlines for applicants and admitted students will be strictly enforced. Failure to comply will result in rescinding the application or admission.
Local CSU Campuses & Their Service Areas that include De Anza College
If you are planning to apply to a CSU campus that is outside of your defined local service area keep in mind that, under CSU system-wide impaction, campuses are permitted to use supplemental admissions criteria such as higher grade point averages, wait lists, and designating major program impaction for non-local service area applicants. Such students will only be admitted if enrollment space is available after local service area applicants have been accommodated. Posted deadlines for applicants and admitted students will be strictly enforced. Students who do fail to meet published deadlines may have their application or admissions offer rescinded by the CSU.
Disclaimer: The final responsibility for successful transfer rests with the student. The information posted on the De Anza College Transfer Planning Web site is designed to assist you in obtaining the most accurate information possible. However, this information is subject to change without notice, which may subsequently impact your admission to the University.
Students are encouraged to meet as early as possible and periodically with a counselor or academic adviser both at De Anza College and at the transfer institution to confirm your choice of classes and to develop an education plan for transfer.
