Head Coach - Rusty Johnson
Rusty will enter his 3rd season at the helm of the De Anza Dons Men's Soccer program in 2016. Rusty came to De Anza College after spending 10 years coaching at his alma mater, Santa Clara University. During his tenure at Santa Clara, Rusty worked with several current professional players, such as, Mehdi Ballouchy, Jide Ogunbiyi, Jalil Anibaba, Stephen McCarthy, and Erik Hurtado. In addition, Rusty has worked with many former MLS standouts, like Joe Cannon, Ryan Cochrane, Amaechi Igwe, Erik Ustruck, Eric Denton, Steve Cronin, Peter Lowry, Kevin Klasila, Larry Jackson, and Matt Marquess. Working with players of this caliber gives Rusty the perspective needed to promote and develop players to the top levels of the game.
Rusty is also very involved in the community, working with several clubs in the area with their teams and goalkeepers. Rusty has served as Goalkeeping Director for the De Anza Force and the De Anza Force Academies, as well as Tri-Valley SC. He is currently the head coach of the U16 Santa Cruz Breakers Academy in Aptos, CA.
As a player at Santa Clara University, Rusty was part of a team that played in two College Cup's in a row (1998 & 1999). In 1999, Rusty played in the National Championship game televised on ESPN, losing 1-0 to the eventual champions, Indiana. Rusty's name still sits at the top end of many of the Santa Clara record books in, career shutouts (24), goals against average (.79), and consecutive shutout minutes (526:14).
1st Assistant Coach - Roheet Sen
Roheet Sen played at De Anza in 2005 & 2006. He has been a very successful coach in the Central Valley Soccer Club, which has merged with the San Jose Earthquakes, allowing Roheet opportunities to help with their prestigious academy. Roheet is working in many areas of the college game, last year having coached the SJSU Club team. Roheet has coached many years at Branham High School, and in 2015, was named the Head Coach at Leland High School.
Coach Emeritus - Kulwant Singh
After a 6-year absence, Kulwant returned to oversee the Men's Soccer Program in 2013. He is also the Director of Athletics at De Anza. Currently, he is the President of NATYCAA.
Kulwant has helped the program win 11 conference championships in 17 years, been in the playoffs every year, go deep in the playoffs, and has won 2 state championships. His coaching record is 258 wins, 58 losses and 61 ties.
He has helped numerous students transfer to the university levels, many with academic and athletic scholarships.
Kulwant holds the prestigious US Soccer National "A" Coaching License as well as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier License. Additionally he has a Master's Degree in Kinesiology
Kulwant on two previous occasions been named National Coach of the Year. He has already been named to three Hall of Fame's for his coaching excellence.
The De Anza Soccer team's home field is one of the top soccer facilities in the country. Additional the new stadium facility has opened and will also host top soccer games and events. The new stadium field boasts seating for 3,000 people and has a video scoreboard.
