SAT MATHEMATICS (Grades 9-12) (473*)
This course will help students prepare
for the math section of the SAT, including changes that have been made since
the introduction of Common Core State Standards. The instructor will address different types of math questions on the test, while also teaching general skills for success and focusing on each student’s broader purpose and goals. The class will also cover concepts that can be applied to other math classes and everyday life.
Class requirements: Tablet or computer with internet capability. Students must purchase Barron’s SAT Premium Study Guide with 7 Practice Tests (ISBN-13: 978-1438012223).
Cost: $395
Instructor: Ahmad Khanssari has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San José State University and worked as a system design engineer in the electronics industry. He subsequently earned an MBA and a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California. He has taught mathematics for six years.
Dates and times: Choose Session 1 or 2
Session 1 (Preparation for the SAT given March 13): Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30, Feb. 6, 13 and 27, March 6 (eight Saturdays; no class on Feb. 20), 1-3:50 p.m.
Session 2 (Preparation for the SAT given June 5): April 3, 17 and 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 (eight Saturdays; no class on April 10), 1-3:50 p.m.
Instructor: Arshdeep Shinh has a teaching credential and a master’s degree in instruction and curriculum from the University of Phoenix, as well as a bachelor’s degree in math and physics from Guru Nanak Dev University in India.

SAT WRITING AND
LANGUAGE, READING AND
ESSAY
(Grades 9-12) (474*)
This course will help each student prepare an individualized plan for SAT preparation, while providing extensive opportunities to practice for the Writing and Language, Reading and Essay sections of the test. Students will learn and practice strategies for all types of questions they may encounter. The class also covers planning for vocabulary enhancement and provides class
time for skills development, including evidence-based interpretation, applying context in analysis, and understanding organization and structure for sentences, passages and essays.
Instructor: Jonathan Stiles has a master’s degree in teaching from Bethany University and has earned two teaching credentials. He has taught students in grades 4-12 for more than a decade.
