Fully Online / or In-Person - Fall 2023:

Dear Students:

In Spring Quarter 2024, I will be teaching the following courses, below:

Four Fully Online Classes

  • Two HIST 17A classes
  • Two HIST 17C classes

Two Fully On Campus In-Person Classes

  • One HIST 17A class
  • One HIST 17C class

For more information about my Online and In Person classes:

Online Classes

  • The online classes will be asynchronous online, meaning they are online classes that do not have scheduled meetings, and therefore, "Students can log in anytime to do the required weekly course work" (as the details for each class state, which you will be able to see by clicking on a specific class, below). For each class, there will be a well-organized syllabus (course guide), the modules and assignments in the Canvas online system will be very clear and straightforward, and the information for assignments will be provided well ahead of time.
  • At this point in planning for the online courses, there will be a midterm and a final exam, for which you will receive the written assignments ahead of time, so you will be able to consult with the instructor before the exams, if you so choose, and if you have any questions. There will also be one discussion post (with homework questions) each week and one reply post each week based on some excellent historical films, lecture notes with visuals, and interesting readings (except, of course, not during midterm week and finals, so that you can focus on those).

In-Person Classes

  • The fully in-person classes will be for students who would like to have the real IN-PERSON on-campus college experience for learning, which will be engaging and fun, and will prepare you well for university transfer where most classes are in person (if that is your goal). You can also ask questions and receive answers in real time and have more direct access to help from the professor during class and in office hours on campus. In addition, you will see your classmates in person and have dynamic and interesting REAL discussions (instead of doing discussion posts.
  • My fully in-person classes will have only two required class meetings each week Tuesdays and Thurday. (Please see details by clicking on a specific class, below) There will be a well-organized syllabus (course guide), the assignments will be very clear, and there will be in-class review sessions to help you do well.
  • At this point in the planning, there will be 2 multiple choice tests, and there will be one midterm and a final exam, for which you will receive the written assignments ahead of time, so you will be able to consult with the instructor before the exams, if you choose, and if you have any questions. The assignments will be based on excellent historical films, interesting readings, and visually illustrated lectures, as well as fun activities and helpful discussions in person. : )

All Classes

  • We will also be looking at the significant impact of American history today, on diverse people's lives, based on influential current events.
  • As an instructor, I am very accessible to students and will have regular office hours by phone, by Zoom, and in person. Office hours will be noted on this website.
  • If you have any questions about my courses, please feel free to email. I hope you are having a good year.
