Composition and Reading
This course introduces students to university-level reading and writing, with an emphasis on analysis, and closely examines a variety of texts (personal, popular, literary, professional, academic) from culturally diverse traditions. Students will practice common rhetorical strategies used in academic writing and compose clear, well-organized, and well-developed essays, with varying purposes and differing audiences, from personal to academic.

EWRT1A-001A-KED: LEAD (Latinx Empowerment at De Anza) Learning Community. This class involves 12 hours of active, hands-on, work making a difference in our communities. The course has been modified so that this does not involve more time than a regular class. This is a HYBRID class that has both online and ON CAMPUS attendance requirements. Concurrent enrollment required in SOC-001.KED (CRN#02747) and COUN-005-KED (CRN#26654). For more information contact Liliana Rivera at email@example.com. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. Most De Anza classes will use the Canvas course management system. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course; a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests. Information about Canvas and Online Education Orientation can be found in Canvas on the Student Resources page: https://deanza.instructure.com/courses/3382.
