Contemporary Health Concerns

Course Description

This course examines the development of understanding and attitudes relative to individual, family, community, international, and global health medical issues and needs. Topics include health consumerism, mental health, stress, drugs and addiction, infectious and chronic degenerative diseases nutrition, weight management, fitness, sexual health and reproduction, and environmental concerns. Students will learn about common lifestyle behaviors with an emphasis on self-help and preventable aspects of medical care.

HLTH-021.-1GZ: Fully ONLINE. Class is open to all students as well as Cupertino High School students. This is a dual enrollment class; offered through the CCAP Agreement. This class meets each week on scheduled days and times as noted in the class listing. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course; a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests. De Anza will host its annual Enrollment Day event for graduating high school students and their families on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Main Quad and other locations.

Sixteen faculty members were granted tenure by the Foothill-De Anza district Board of Trustees on Monday, during a special celebration attended by Chancellor Lee Lambert and leaders from the college and district. Colleagues, deans and family members were also there to congratulate them.

Four members of the De Anza College community will be honored in March with Excellence Awards from the national League for Innovation in the Community College. They were selected for their outstanding service to the college and its students.

De Anza has received its first-ever grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, providing $150,000 for an ambitious, three-year effort to create and expand oral history programs focused on historically marginalized communities.
