                SPORTS & GAMES
BASKETBALL
Entering Grades 5-7; Entering Grades 8-9 (Offered for two age groups in separate classes) – Students will improve their basketball skills and develop an appreciation of this exciting, fast-paced sport. Through a variety of drills and games, students will learn and practice the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting. Teamwork, self- con dence and sportsmanship will be emphasized on a daily basis. Modi cations will be made to accommodate all skill levels. This is a co-ed class that is held indoors. Rubber-soled athletic shoes are required.
CHESS SKILLS AND TOURNAMENTS
(CUPERTINO MIDDLE ONLY)
Entering Grades 5-8 – Chess promotes logic, problem- solving and concentration. This course will provide basic instruction and intermediate strategies. Students will increase planning and develop their ability to “see the board.” We will review basic moves, work on strategy and participate in tournaments.
TABLE TENNIS (CUPERTINO MIDDLE ONLY) Entering Grades 5-8 – Table tennis is a world-class sport combining technique, speed, spin, power, touch, smarts and concentration. Students will learn basic strokes, footwork, drills, strategies and skills. Games and matches will be played based on practice drills. This is a co-ed class. Rubber-soled athletic shoes are required. Includes all equipment and materials.
TEST PREPARATION
PSAT PREPARATION [2 HOURS]
(CUPERTINO MIDDLE ONLY)
Entering Grades 7-9 – This course will guide students in developing a personalized plan for PSAT preparation and provide extensive practice opportunities for the Reading, Writing and Language, and Mathematics sections of the PSAT. Students will study essential facets of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis and logic that directly impact PSAT and SAT performance, including linear equations and systems in algebraic expressions, data analysis and quantitative literacy, and  uency with complex equations. Students will also implement a plan for vocabulary enhancement and use class time to focus on skills development including improving evidence- based interpretations, applying context in analysis, and using organization and structure for sentences, passages and essays.
