mathematics. Students will apply their knowledge
of multiplication and division to solve ratio and rate problems. They will extend their knowledge of fractions and be able to explain in their own words how dividing and multiplying fractions follows logical mathematical processes. Students will learn problem-solving strategies and deepen their understanding of rational numbers, absolute value, expressions and equations.
GRADE 7 MATH OVERVIEW ★
Entering Grade 7 – This course curriculum is aligned with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and is recommended for students entering seventh-grade mathematics. Students will extend their knowledge
of ratios and apply proportionality concepts in solving single- and multi-step problems, expressions and equations. Students will learn problem-solving strategies as they deepen their understanding of two- and three- dimensional gures, while making connections to
scale drawings.
GRADE 8 MATH OVERVIEW ★
Entering Grade 8 – This course curriculum is aligned with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and is recommended for students entering eighth-grade mathematics. Students will extend their knowledge
of expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation,
and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations. Students will be exposed to the concept of
a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships. In addition, students will learn problem- solving strategies as they deepen their understanding of two- and three-dimensional space and gures, while using distance, angle, similarity and congruence, in addition to understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.
ALGEBRA SKILLS DEVELOPMENT ★
Entering Grades 6 and 7 – This course focuses on the Expressions and Equations domain of the Common Core State Standards for sixth and seventh grades, with some mild exposure to eighth-grade algebra concepts as well. The course will identify pre-algebraic and algebraic concepts from integrated frameworks for a focused study. Students will use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and solve problems
by using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations. Students will apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor and expand linear expressions with rational coef cients, in addition to using variables to represent quantities in real-world and mathematical problems. The class also will emphasize performing arithmetic operations with variables, including those involving whole-number exponents,
in the conventional order. Students will be exposed to graphing and proportional relationships.
  ★ Meets Common Core standards.
The Math Overview series is designed to introduce key Common Core math concepts from the upcoming year while reinforcing the prior year’s most essential carryover skills.
