                                    YEAR-ROUND YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR GRADES 1-12
 THE ART OF ORIGAMI –
GRADES 2-6 (431*)
 e art of folding paper is both entertaining and creative. In this series, participants will create several origami pieces and use visual art tools to fuse them in a one-of-a-kind project. Students will start with basic folding, mixed with two-dimensional elements, before moving to stand-alone, 3-D origami art pieces.  e class will include making animals and  owers, along with games.
Instructor: Viviana Leija-Sysak is a
visual artist who has worked for television production companies and as an art instructor in a variety of media, from drawing to video and animation.
Cost: $80
Materials fee: $10 (payable to instructor)
Dates and times: Sept. 21 and 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, Nov. 2 and 9 (eight Fridays), 5-6 p.m.
CHINESE FOR BEGINNERS – GRADES 3-5 (394*)
 is class will give students a foundation
for Mandarin studies, using Pinyin for pronunciation in a supportive and playful environment. Lessons in Chinese culture will enhance the student experience through direct instruction, activities, online resources and Chinese brush-art calligraphy. Students will learn to read simple Chinese and improve their pronunciation with a native accent, preparing them to advance to the next level.
Instructor: Kristina Tao has a master’s degree and a teaching credential in Mandarin. She has taught in China, Australia and the United States.
Cost: $195
Dates and times: Sept. 16, 23 and 30, Oct. 7
and 14 ( ve Sundays), 1-2:30 p.m.
