CHINESE FOR BEGINNERS – GRADES 6-10 (395*)
 is course is designed for students who have no experience or want to strengthen their basic knowledge of phonetics and tones in Chinese. Students will learn to read simple Chinese by using phonetics and improve their pronunciation with a native accent. Conversational and writing practice exercises will prepare students to advance
to the next level.
Instructor: Lucia Wu has taught Chinese in the Bay Area, from beginning to advanced adult classes, for more than 10 years.
Cost: $195
Materials fee: $20 (payable to instructor)
Dates and times: Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, Nov. 3 and 10 (10 Saturdays), 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

DIGITAL STRATEGIES OF ANIMATION – GRADES 4-9 (426*)
 is class will introduce students to using digital photography and other technologies, while providing a basic understanding of animation and video production. Students will begin by brainstorming and developing an idea, before building a digital masterpiece. Along the way, they will gain practice examining images and their meaning to individuals and communities.
Instructor: Viviana Leija-Sysak is a
visual artist who has worked for television production companies and as an art instructor in a variety of media, from drawing to video and animation.
Class requirements: Digital camera or smartphone is required. Students should also bring a tablet or laptop if they have one.
Cost: $120
Materials fee: $5 (payable to instructor)
Dates and times: Sept. 22 and 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, Nov. 3 and 10 (eight Saturdays), 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
