COMPUTER PROGRAMMING, ENGINEERING AND ROBOTICS
LEGO COMPUTER ROBOTICS – INGENIOUS ENGINEERING (KENNEDY MIDDLE ONLY)
Entering Grades 5 and 6 – Explore the world of mechanical and computer engineering. In this class, students will pair up to build at least four different machines using vintage Apple computers and LEGO Education sets that include motors, lamps, pulleys, gears, axles and sensors. We will hook up the LEGO creations to a Control Lab interface board, then create and write procedures. Control Lab has a text-based programming language and a variety of project choices, making it an excellent option for student learning and skill-building. Students will gain programming and building skills as their robots become more complex
in nature.
INTRODUCTION TO JAVA PROGRAMMING
[2 HOURS]
Entering Grades 5-7 – This class is an introduction to programming games and simulations using the Java programming language. Programming concepts and techniques are introduced and practiced through
a series of applications, such as creating physics simulations and simple interactive games. Students will
use the Java programming language to de ne objects, variables and methods for implementing simulations
as well as to build and test simple programs using operators, expressions and input/output functions. Class sessions include time to work on the programs with help from the instructor. Some homework time will be required to complete the lessons. Software and lessons can also be accessed for use at home.
INTRODUCTION TO PYTHON PROGRAMMING
