This writing assignment consists of three parts.

Part I: Answer the following journal questions:

  • How does public education benefit the state of California as a whole?
  • What is the purpose of going to a march/demonstration/rally/teach-in?
  • What do you think a good educational system would be like?
  • Define what it means to be a person who makes a difference. Provide examples from your experiences at this event.
  • In what ways does this event overall impact or shape your identity? Do you feel more politically engaged? What can you do from now on?

Part II: Write a short narrative of what you did before and during the March 4th day of action. How did you help with the preparations? What did you do on that day? Was there anything that was particularly memorable?

Part III: Reflect on the way Asian Americans are contributing to the movement to save public education in California. This should be based on your own experience, participation and observation.
